The history of the flower bulb company HM van Haaster<\/h2>\n<\/div>

Even before the First World War, Hein van Haaster and his brother Dirk started growing flower bulbs.<\/p>\n

In 1905, a piece of orchard and forest between the Breeland farm and the Zilkerbinnenweg was converted into sandy soil. They carefully started growing hyacinths on that piece of land around 1910.<\/p>\n

In 1923, the two brothers separated. Hein built a modern three-storey barn on the Zilkerbinnenweg. The company expanded regularly and his four sons were also working in the company. Hein’s eldest son Jan went to America at the end of the 1940s for the first export orders. Kees and Louis started exporting to Germany and Harry was in charge of the nursery. In 1957, these four sons took over the company. In 1965, the entire company moved to its current location at Bartenweg 5 in Hillegom. In the early 1980s, it was decided to split the nursery into three separate nursery companies. The wholesale remained with HM van Haaster.<\/p>\n

In 1989, the current owners, Harry & Louis, took over the company.<\/strong>
\nHarry’s focus is on wholesale and export and Louis is responsible for the nursery. The current company building was newly built in 1997 and has a modern barn and cell complex of approximately 6,000 m2.<\/p>\n<\/div>
